Senator Thom Goolsby is a respected attorney, family man and former Marine Corps officer. He is the Partner at the Goolsby Law Firm in Wilmington and an Adjunct Professor of Law at Campbell University. Before his election to the General Assembly in 2010, Sen. Goolsby served as Counsel to the State Crime Commission under Gov. Jim Martin.
A graduate of The Citadel, Sen. Goolsby served as Regimental Commander of the South Carolina Corps of Cadets. He is a member of the Greater Wilmington Chamber of Commerce, holds an MBA from Golden Gate University and earned his JD from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Sen. Goolsby is a familiar personality on local radio and television, providing policy commentary and legal assistance to area residents. An avid writer and speaker, he is a compelling public advocate for individual liberty and conservative government.
Sen. Goolsby co-chairs the Joint Legislative Oversight Committee on Justice and Public Safety and the Appropriations on Justice and Public Safety Committee. He is vice-chairman of the Senate Judiciary I Committee and leads study committees on pharmaceutical liability, consolidation of judicial districts and manufactured homes.
Sen. Goolsby is also a member of committees on commerce, energy policy, education, finance, marine fisheries, banking modernization, government operations and elections oversight.
The American Conservative Union gave Sen. Goolsby its ‘Defender of Liberty’ award with a 100% rating of his first-term voting record. He also received a perfect score for pro-business and jobs votes from The North Carolina Free Enterprise Foundation.
Sen. Goolsby resides with his wife, Rachael, son, Fleming, and daughters, Lily and Alabama, in downtown Wilmington. The Goolsbys attend Port City Community Church.
