Senator Thom Goolsby

Medical Malpractice Reform

Friends,

Healthcare costs are skyrocketing for working families in New Hanover County. Affordability and accessibility of care in North Carolina cannot improve until we enact comprehensive medical liability reform in our state. As a State Senator, I will fight for this common sense legislation.

Specifically, I believe the policy position of the Republican Senate Caucus is sound and on target. I support a $500,000 cap on non-economic damages and collateral source reform. I also take the position that any shift from contributory negligence to comparative negligence should be balanced by eliminating the doctrine of joint and several liability in North Carolina.

Medical Malpractice Reform is one common sense step to increasing the availability of quality healthcare and lowering the cost of care. Moreover, it will make North Carolina a friendlier place for doctors to practice medicine.

The citizens of New Hanover County deserve leaders who will fix problems rather than politicians who play games. I am running for the Senate to help lead North Carolina in a new, prosperous and positive direction.

I ask for your support.

All the best –
